More of the million deeds challenge:

Small acts add up to big changes and everyone can make a difference
It’s about making a difference to those around you through acts of Excellence, Friendship or Respect in your daily life.
It’s about doing everyday things with a great spirit.
It’s for everyone who embraces, embodies and expresses the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.
It is these deeds you do and share that brings the virtual Youth Olympic Flame, deed by deed, from Greece to Singapore.
That’s what the Million Deeds Challenge is about.
So join the Million Deeds Challenge today, and be part of the Youth Olympic movement that celebrates the spirit of Olympism.
----------------------------------------------------
History

A group of Singapore students from Holy Innocents' High School came together and shared ideas on how young people can make a positive impact by expressing the Olympic Values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect in their daily lives. These ideas were then shared at a student leadership conference with students from 16 other schools. The Million Deeds Challenge was inspired by them.

Introduction of Sports Presenters for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games

120 youth sports presenters for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) were introduced to the public today by Mr Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, and Transport.Aged between 13 and 29, the presenters will bring their personality and vitality to the Games. As sports presenters, they will be assigned to competition venues as announcers, commentators, hosts and mascot talent to enliven spectators’ experience during the Games. The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) organised 10 training camps between December 2008 and March 2009 where about 500 attended. From this, 120 were finally selected. The selection is based on criteria such as overall presentation skills, vocal quality and personality.
So please go to the website:http://www.milliondeeds.sg/And type in a good deed that you have done as we still got around 900,000 more deeds to go.

The First Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010 will bring together talented athletes from across the world with the aim of having them take part in high-level competitions and indicating to them the path to take to become real Olympians. This will be a multi-sport, cultural and educational event, which will give a whole new dimension to the Olympic ideal, by complementing what has already been accomplished thanks to the Olympic Games and the IOC’s various projects to breathe life into the Olympic values.
Who? What? When?
The Youth Olympic Games aim to bring together talented athletes – aged from 14 to 18 - from around the world to participate in high-level competitions, but also, alongside the sports element of the event, to run educational programmes on the Olympic values, the benefits of sport for a healthy lifestyle, the social values sport can deliver and the dangers of doping and of training to excess and/or of inactivity.
The first ever Summer Youth Olympic Games will bring together approximately 3,200 athletes and 800 officials in 2010. The sports programme will encompass all 26 sports on the programme of the 2012 Summer Games, with a limited number of disciplines and events. The first Winter Olympic Youth Games will bring together around 1,000 athletes and 500 officials. The athletes will compete – for the first time in 2012 – in all seven Olympic Winter Sports. The YOG follow the traditional cycle of four years, with Summer Games in 2010, 2014, 2018, etc and Winter Games in 2012, 2016, 2020, etc.
Singapore will be hosting the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) from 14 to 26 August 2010. The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games will receive some 5,000 athletes and officials from the 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), along with estimated 800 media representatives, 20,000 local and international volunteers, and more than 500,000 spectators. Young athletes – aged between 14 and 18 years – will compete and take part in 26 sports events.
The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games aims to inspire youth around the world to embrace, embody and express the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect. It will create a lasting sports, culture and education legacy for Singapore and youths from around the world, as well as enhance and elevate the sporting culture locally and regionally.

So far, our school has made contact with our partnering country!
Our partnering country is… Colombia!
And we hope that some of their pupils would come visit Singapore and have a look of our glorious, thriving country.
So, everyone! Let’s get together and try to know Colombia better!
We can learn their langauge, which is Spanish and know more about them.
Also, maybe we can even learn how to cook their small pastries and try them out!
This will be a fantastic idea! :)
